Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
I like mid-September.
Maybe it’s because I know that in countless communities across Ontario it is the start of hockey season.
The Georgian MidOntario Junior C Hockey League opened their season last night with Alliston winning 2-0 at Schomberg.
Tonight, Alliston will host the Stayner Siskins
Tonight, the Western Junior C League opens with the Mount Forest Patriots at Kincardine to face the Bulldogs, the Hanover Barons host Mitchell and in Walkerton, the defending league champion Hawks are at home to Wingham.
Tomorrow night, the OHL Exhibition season concludes for the Owen Sound Attack when they host Mississauga.
The Attack are 0 & 4 in pre-season and while the brass always wants to win, they’re stressing the key aspect of September is evaluation
The regular season starts next Friday for the Attack when they visit the Steelheads
And while hockey is starting, a number of activities come to a conclusion
Hanover Raceway has their final card of the harness racing season tomorrow night with a 7:30 start
At Varney Motor Speedway, the auto racing season concludes with a doubleheader this weekend with the green flag flying at 5 pm both Saturday & Sunday
And finally on Sunday, the York Region Soccer League’s Premier Division Final will be staged at the Nottawasaga Inn pitch as Collingwood United goes against Alliston Arsenal
Collingwood dominated the regular season in 2013 and are looking for their third title in the last 4 years
I like mid-September. Have a great weekend.
I’m Fred Wallace
