Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by 49th Marketing.com

If you’re my age, and you think back far enough, I’m sure you spent a good portion of your Saturday noon hours in 1973 & 74 watching roller derby.
The Canadian All Stars; Paul ” the Bear ” Rupert, ” Skinny Mini ” Miller, Sam ” The Man ” Washington, Diane Syverson, Frankie Macedo, Sherri Jackson…announcer Barry Dale, ” Loooooooook Out “….yeah, I saw a lot of episodes.
It was great fun & great drama, the All Stars always seemed to manage to rally on the last jam to defeat the evil L.A. T-Birds, the Bombers or the Baltimore-Washington Cats.
Forty years later, Grey Bruce Roller Derby is skating forward, attempting to make the jump from development to full fledged competition.
The Ladies of the Highland Dames staged a one half exhibition last week at the Owen Sound Fair, playing a match against Fergus on the old Coliseum pad.
The Dames confirm they’ll be returning next year as an attraction at the Fair, but between then and now, the development continues with the stated desire of establishing a local league with at least a pair of teams, from which the best skaters would compete out of the region on an all star team.
Sounds similar to the Canadian All Stars.
” Loooook Out “.
I’m Fred Wallace
