Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by 49th Marketing.com

You’ve heard the adages, the cliches, the sayings….but what if those sayings conflict ?
” Sometimes change for the sake of change is good. “
Or
” If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. “
Such is the scenario unfolding in the Thornbury area later this week when the National Hockey League refs and linesmen, along with a handful of prospects including former Sauble Beach resident Kendrick Nicholson, make their annual visit for their pre-season training camp.
For the past half dozen years, this camp has been conducted with lodging provided in Collingwood while on-ice and classroom work is staged at the Beaver Valley Community Centre.
Terry Gregson, a resident of Lora Bay, was instrumental in the arrival and development of this camp as the NHL’s Director of Officiating.
Through the years, working with solid people in the region, Gregson states the camp operates like a ” well oiled machine “.
But…….Terry Gregson stepped aside last month, unsure he had the drive, ambition or desire required for the all consuming position of Director of Officiating.
Stephen Walkom who was involved in the initial process of coming to Thornbury is back as NHL Director of Officiating and as such, any decision regarding where the NHL Officials Camp will be staged is now his call.
There could be change. A geographical move from place to place around North America to various home locales for NHL Officials might be a good political move.
But there will be many in the Beaver Valley region who will tell you that the NHL Officials Camp is definitely not broken and in little need of fixing.
I’m Fred Wallace
