One day this Spring, Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Larry Miller found himself at the Dock Lunch in Penetanguishene.
Larry discovering the Dock Lunch is like Warren Buffett finding a quarter- it’s not a stretch to imagine.
However, what Larry discovered while waiting for his lunch was a marvellous collection of photographs and stories pertaining to athletes from Penetanguishene or those who now reside in the town.
He e-mailed me to tell me what he had discovered and asked about some of the autographs he couldn’t make out and the stories just came flooding back.
I can’t remember the last time I was at the Dock Lunch; but the images of that wall with Phil ” Babe ” Marchildon, Brian Orser, Russ Howard, Mike Robitallie, Chris Kontos, and the 1984 Penetanguishene Kings is pretty vivid.
For the long time residents and customers it’s comforting to see the pictures and plaques and stories of those who achieved big things from a small community.
For those passing through, like Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Larry Miller, it’s a fascinating insight into the community you’re in, even if you’re only there until your lunch is ready.
I’m Fred Wallace
