As a kid, I distinctly remember disliking the Boston Bruins of the late 60’s-early 70’s.
The Big Bad Bruins…….
And as much as Boston had some of the game biggest stars; Orr & Esposito, my dislike was manufactured around the brash persona of the Bruins; exemplified most by Derek Sanderson.
Sanderson lived the playboy lifestyle, lived to excess, drank and drugged himself out of the sport, drifted out of hockey and life, only to return to the forefront much later with the Bruins TV coverage.
The Sanderson story is chronicled in ” Crossing The Line “, Sanderson’s perspective on who he was, who was trying to be, what he is now and what he hopes to be forever.
In truth, it’s an amazing story from humble beginnings to ridiculous riches, to rock bottom and then new beginnings.
There is inspiration and motivation for many people on the pages.
But the overwhelming feeling that I came to from reading ” Crossing the Line ” is that Derek Sanderson is a lucky, lucky man on many, many levels.
