Would you have done it ?
Hunter Mahan had the lead after 2 rounds of the RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey in Oakville, before withdrawing from the field Saturday to fly home to Dallas to be with his wife, Kandi, who went into labour a month before her expected due date.
The Mahan’s welcomed Zoe Olivia at 3:26 am, touching off a unique discussion.
Universally, Hunter Mahan is being applauded for doing the ” right thing ” in the eyes of most, having his priorities clearly in order and being the supportive husband and now father.
I don’t dispute that at all.
However, what if the professional circumstances were different ?
Mahan has earned more than $ 2.3 million dollars on the golf circuit this year alone., and won a shade over $ 25 million in his career.
Did that make Hunter Mahan’s decision any easier ?
Furthermore, what if it was a different second round leader, with a different expectant wife, a grinder with a financial history that was only a fraction of what Mahan has earned ?
Would that player be less of husband, less of a father, less of person, if they elected to stay on and try and boost the family’s economic standing ?
So again, would you have done it ?
