The various levels of emotion generated by the Ryan Braun suspension from Major League Baseball would be an interesting study for someone doing their thesis on human thought and behaviour.
Braun, a former National League MVP, was suspended for the remainder of the baseball season stemming from MLB’s investigation of players reportedly connected to a Florida clinic accused of distributing performance-enhancing drugs.
For Braun’s part, he reportedly addressed his teammates, admitted he’s made mistakes and accepts the suspension.
If you’re one of Braun’s teammates in Milwaukee, how do you react ?
Do you feel empathy for a colleague who felt he needed something more to play ?
Do you feel anger that Braun’s actions and subsequent suspension impact 24 other players, who were struggling to begin with ?
Do you resent Braun and his accomplishments, thinking you’d be a better ball player if you too were enhanced ?
Are you scared ? I’m willing to guess Ryan Braun isn’t the only Brewer, certainly not the last Major Leaguer, to be tainted in this or a similar scenario.
Ryan Braun gets banished and the possible range of emotions, both exhibited and hidden, are endless.
I’m Fred Wallace
