A group hoping to keep the Owen Sound Marine and Rail Museum open on the waterfront is moving forward in putting together a business proposal for city council to review.
Ten committee members met last week and decided to drop the early name of “Friends of the Marine and Rail Museum” because of concerns it implied links with the existing board.
Instead, the new Board of Management will be called the “Community Waterfront Centre”.
Co-chair of the new group, Richard Thomas, tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they have plenty of work ahead, in order to be ready with a proposal by November.
One thing they are working on is incorporation and registration as a not for profit group so they can start taking donations.
The Board for the Museum decided to move the artifacts to Grey Roots Museum, and the city wants to move it’s Tourism office back into city hall at the same time.
Originally, city council called for proposals for the waterfront location, but that is now on hold until the new “Waterfront” group has a plan in front of council.
Thomas says it’s likely something will have to go into the location other than just the Marine and Rail museum.
He has heard a number of ideas, including a Victorian Tea room.
Thomas says several meetings will be held over the next few months by the newly formed group.
