Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
The Ontario Special Olympic Summer Games are underway, being hosted just north of Toronto in York.
Region 4 has a healthy contingent of competitors with almost 50 athletes and 14 coaches representing our area.
The Region 4 entry includes athletes from Owen Sound, Southampton, Port Elgin, Kincardine, Hanover & Harriston, all of whom qualified for the Summer Games over the course of the last year.
Region 4 Coach Dianne Speed concedes the excitement level for the athletes involved is sky high- and with good reason, based on the way they’re treated and the special events that run concurrently with the Games.
Speed notes the Hanover based softball team and the soccer club from Owen Sound will competitive, plus she expects solid results from the Track & Field athletes, especially in the high jump.
Competition at the Ontario Special Olympic Summer Games started yesterday. We’ll see who comes home with medals on the weekend.
I’m Fred Wallace
