Over the course of last weekend, what would you consider to be the biggest upset in sports ?
Was it tennis ?
Was it the Queen’s Plate ?
Or was it the UFC ?
The tennis story is a sweet one for British nationalists, longing for a homebrew to win Wimbledon.
Andy Murray ” upset ” the # 1 seed Novak Djokovic in straight sets to become the first Brit to win the men’s final at Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936.
And if a British man can win Wimbledon in tennis, can a Canadian man win the Canadian Open in Golf. That drought stretches back to 1954 and Pat Fletcher.
Speaking of Canada. the historic Queen’s Plate was won by ” Midnight Aria ” , ridden by Jesse Campbell who went off as a 16-1 longshot holding off ” Up With the Birds “, the pre-race favorite for the victory.
And in the UFC, Chris Weidman won the Middleweight Championship by stunning longtime champion Anderson Silva, who more or less begged Weidman to tag him.
Take your pick, pick your sport, plenty of unexpected and surprising outcomes to sporting events last weekend.
