Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
Andrew Shaw’s greatest moment in hockey, I’m certain, was early Thursday morning when the Blackhawks buzzsaw was in the right place at the right time, and had the puck go in off of him for the triple overtime winner in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Championship against Boston.
Just 2 years ago, Shaw was a member of the Owen Sound Attack, and trust me, he had his moments here.
Like the night in Sarnia, he and Craig Hottot got coincidental minors, and at the expiration of those penalties they left their gloves and helmets in the penalty box, stepped onto to the ice ,and got at it big time.
Like the epic battles he had with London giant Jared Tinordi. One there, one here. After Tinordi, is Chara that much bigger ?
Like the night in Plymouth he blew a fuse with a second to go and launched into the Whalers.
Like the game winner he scored at Windsor
Like the day he and a teammate got at it on the Attack bus before we got to Tara.
Like the effort he delivered in the OHL Championship before he sucker punched Chris DeSousa in a rage in Game 5
Like in the Memorial Cup when he led the tournament in scoring.
The game winning goal in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup at Chicago for Andrew Shaw had to be a rush, a career highlight.
For those of us who saw him in Owen Sound his greatest moment was a continuation of what he accomplished here in one year.
I’m Fred Wallace
