Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “, brought to you by Hal Wright Chevrolet-Cadillac-GMC-Buick on the Sunset Strip in Owen Sound.
In a week of big events, maybe the biggest is tonight at Saugeen Shores.
The Bruce Grey Child & Family Services Foundation presents former NHL’er Theo Fleury as a guest speaker tonight at the C.A.W. Centre in Port Elgin.
Fleury was a prominent NHL’er when he played, an over-achiever really, as he was drafted by the Calgary Flames with the belief that he’d be a fan favorite for their I.H.L. team in Salt Lake City.
After half a season with the Golden Eagles in 1988-89, it was noted he was scoring at a goal a game pace there and was quickly elevated to the Flames.
Fleury hit Calgary and sparked the Flames, picking up almost a point a game through the remainder of the regular season and was an integral part of the Flames march to the 89 Stanley Cup.
But Fleury’s story is so much bigger than hockey, so much more significant for our society, sports or otherwise, and stands as a tale of triumph and now, ongoing vigilance.
Tickets for the presentation tonight are $ 40 and can be obtained by calling 519-371-4453 ext # 4133.
See you there.
I’m Fred Wallace
