The 2013 York Region Soccer League is just nicely underway, but you can’t say it’s been uneventful in the early going- certainly for the defending champion Grey Motors United.
Grey Motors started the season against their newest and, from the sounds of it, soon to be their fiercest rival, the Strikers.
United won the match 1-0 scoring very early and then riding both goalkeepers to the victory.
Grey Motors had to use both keepers as starter Adam Walton was involved in a collision that left a nasty gash and required treatment at the hospital. Corey Schwartz finished the whitewashing in goal.
Next, United was rained out last Thursday against Orillia and followed with a third straight home game Saturday against Collingwood
In that match, Schwartz started in goal, but in a fracas he fired a punch, got ejected, soon to be suspended and was replaced by Walton, who once again couldn’t finish the match when he crashed again and suffered broken ribs.
Which brings us to tonight, when Grey Motors will play their 4th straight at home, hosting Alliston at 8:45 pm at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex.
And the starting goalkeeper tonight for United will be………
I’m Fred Wallace
