The Owen Sound Attack Awards Barbeque was staged Sunday afternoon.
The Memorial Cup Championship Game was Sunday night.
And now, a day or so later, it’s the ” official ” start of next season.
The OHL Trade Window opens Saturday, and while there’s a lot to do, Attack General Manager Dale DeGray states he ” won’t do a lot……not in the beginning. “
But make no mistake, there’s areas to be addressed.
Let’s start with the Prospects; First rounder Ethan Szypula was signed over the weekend.
After that, while the Attack may sign more underagers than ever before under DeGray, there’s no plan to go with more underagers than ever before.
Next, in goal would you be surprised if there is a move for veteran ?
In a fashion similar to the underagers, such a move would be designed to ensure there’s competition for spots on the roster.
Owen Sound has had a decent run of off season pickups for the blueline; Matt Stanisz. Nathan Chiarlitti. The need for such a player this year is higher than ever, but does that player exist. Probably. Just not for the asking price on June 1st.
And up front, by my count, I have a bunch of question marks plus an understanding that Evan Smith will not be in Owen Sound this season.
Alphabetically,,,,,Brace ? Gabor ? Gabriel ? Gavrus ? Maidens ? Malone ? Murphy ? Pezzetta ?
So while there may not be a flurry of activity in the short term, the Owen Sound Attack have no shortage of areas to address.
I’m Fred Wallace
