The upset in the Ontario Hockey League Championship Series is rare. Very rare.
Sure, there are upsets here and there through the course of the playoffs, but in the final, how many times has the decided underdog won the J Ross Robertson Cup ?
Not often.
You can make the case the Attack were underdogs in 2011, but really, I can’t think of another matchup that was as lopsided heading into the Championship as this one between London and Barrie.
And yet, heading to Game 4 tonight at the Molson Centre at Barrie, it’s the underdog Colts who hold a 2-1 series lead over the Knights, which is a surprise to many and to me, I find it truly amazing.
And here’s the thing; Barrie is full marks for the lead, they’ve been the better team in both of their victories. The most talented Colts have found far more room to play than I would have imagined and in many other aspects of the game, Barrie simply has been better.
So, if the Colts hold on home ice tonight in Barrie against the Knights, the 2013 OHL Championship would be on the verge of having a major upset.
