Social media is abuzz after a fire ripped through a wind turbine just North of Goderich.
Goderich Fire Services received the call around 1:30 AM on Tuesday about the turbine near Golf Course Road and Highway 21.
After sunrise, users of Facebook and Twitter began posting pictures of the blackened turbine.
Goderich Fire Chief Steve Gardiner tells Bayshore Broadcasting News fire services let the unit burn itself out after ensuring there was no threat to agricultural land or residences.
With ploughed lands and residual snow, he says there wasn’t much concern for property damage.
Gardiner tells us Goderich Fire Services contacted Epcor to clean up the aftermath of the blaze, although the wind farm is currently owned by Kingsbridge.
Epcor is the original developer of the wind farm.
At this point, the Fire Chief says officials would like to know the cause of the fire, but that could take up to three weeks.
