Maybe not tomorrow, but soon, the ball diamonds in the region will be active.
Preparation for the fastball season ahead are well underway as illustrated last week by the news that more than a half dozen members of the Owen Sound Junior Selects are in contention for a spot on the Ontario Men’s Under 21 entry for the International Championships this summer at Saskatoon.
Pitchers Michael Lagace-Roote & Greg Hammel are among the 8 Selects who will attend the Provincial camp which will be conducted during the Victoria Day weekend.
Infielders Austin Brown, Brett Hall and Jordan Turcotte are also vying for a spot on the Ontario team that will compete at a tournament in Cobourg on the second weekend of June.
The other Selects looking for a position on the Ontario entry are catcher Ben Heinbuch plus outfielders Cody Skelton & Adam Stuck who hope to compete at the Under 21 Mens International Championship in Saskatoon July 9th-14th.
This tournament will feature 11 Canadian provincial/territorial teams as well as a club team from New Zealand.
Aside from New Zealand, a large percentage of the players competing at Saskatoon in the international tournament will also be in Owen Sound later this summer when the Jets Fastball Club hosts the 2013 Canadian Junior Fastball Championship at Duncan McLellan Park.
No ball games in the region today, but in short order, it will be a very active Spring & Summer.
