Last Friday was a busy one.
Actually it started Thursday night when I ran into a group of parents and hockey players from the Niagara Falls Rivermen.
In town for the SCTA Playoff tournament, the parents were desperate to acquire 8 tickets to the Attack game the following night against Connor McDavid and the Erie Otters.
A quick call to Attack Marketing Director Brent Fisher wasn’t promising. He thought there ” might ” be some available, but only ” if ” the Otters didn’t use their allotted number. Turned out Erie needed and used them all.
So on the Friday, I made an on air pitch for the Rivermen and sure enough, Sue offered 2, Bev had 4 he wasn’t using, Darlene had 4 standing room tickets and then Cal came through with 2 more.
The two tickets from Cal where in the station, so I bolted off to see the Rivermen play their opening game at the tournament and delivered those tickets and give them instructions on where to pick up the others.
Here’s the thing that struck me walking into the Julie McArthur Regional Rec Centre at 10 am on a Friday morning- WOW ! It’s packed.
There were almost a dozen hockey teams utilizing the two ice pads, all from out of town, the Y Pool was conducting a fitness swim and based on the front desk and the corridor, the gyms and workout rooms were busy too.
To those most responsible for the erection and operation of the new rec centre- well done.
Take your pick for priorities; economic impact, fitness & activities for every age category or community pride- they were all rolled into one Friday morning.
I’m Fred Wallace
