The month of March in Ontario, and across Canada, is really dedicated to the curlers.
Of course, the highlight event is the annual Tim Hortons Brier, hosted this year at Edmonton and won by the Brad Jacobs rink from Northern Ontario
Closer to home, the Meaford Curling Club will once again host a Provincial Championship.
Starting tomorrow, Meaford is the host centre for both the Ontario Tim Hortons Trophy and the Ontario Tim Hortons Colts playdowns.
These two championships, essentially, are open to anyone who has not won a Tankard or a Scotties, and as such, you’ll see some skips who are close or were close in their pursuit of a major Provincial title
The Colts will launch the proceedings tomorrow at 12 noon, with the first draw for the Trophy playdown to follow at 3 pm.
The format is round robin with the best record taking the title. If need be, there is a provision for a tiebreaker.
Play runs for 4 days at the Meaford Curling Club with the opening draw Thursday, Friday and Saturday scheduled for 9 am, and the Meaford Club wants to remind all curling fans admission throughout the Colts & Trophy playdown is free.
March rolls on and two Ontario Curling Championships roll into Meaford.
I’m Fred Wallace
