Complaints to the OPP about dealings at Collingwood town hall have brought the national media to town.
The CBC is running a series of articles on its website today detailing complaints lodged with the OPP’s anti-rackets bureau.
But the Ontario Provincial Police will not confirm whether there is an investigation underway.
OPP Sergeant Pierre Chamberland says the police would never reveal whether an investigation is underway, unless charges are filed.
Stories on www.cbc.ca say former Liberal MP, Paul Bonwick — who is now a lobbyist and consultant and the brother of Collingwood Mayor Sandra Cooper — was hired by Powerstream in the months before a deal was made for Powerstream to buy half of Collingwood’s utility, COLLUS.
The CBC says Bonwick was also hired by Georgian Manor resort prior to a vote about whether a casinos should be invited to Collingwood.
In November, town councillors voted against asking for a casino, but this week voted in favour of a casino if it’s part of a resort development.
The CBC also says a councillor has lodged a complaint with the OPP over contact between some town officials and a business person who wanted to buy the terminal building.
The series of stories published on cbc.ca also says a complaint has been filed by a local blogger after a satirical video was published on another website.
The video was an excerpt from a movie about the second world war, and subtitles were inserted naming several local people, including blogger, Steve Berman whose character in the video is killed by Nazis.
