The Ontario Men’s Curling Championship at Barrie is approaching the climax with a pair of draws today and two more tomorrow, with the potential of tiebreakers tomorrow as well.
While the marquee event in the Ontario Men’s Curling Championship is being conducted at the Molson Centre in Simcoe County, here in Owen Sound it’s a special weekend ahead for the Blue Water Curling Club.
The Blue Water Club is marking their 50th anniversary this weekend with a series of activities Friday through Sunday.
After what were described as ” humble ” beginnings, the club evolved from having ” no fixed address ” to the current location on 19th Street East where it’s busy day after day, season through season with one function or another
This weekend, to mark the 50th, there’ll be a Casino Royale night on Friday followed by a reunion get together Saturday afternoon, the Cabin Fever Fun Night on Saturday night and then the Family Bonspiel Sunday.
Competitively, Blue Water has had pockets of success at every level, but by far their greatest accomplishments were hosting the Ontario Men’s Curling Championship, first in 1991 and again in 2004- both of which were highly successful.
Will Blue Water host another Ontario Men’s Championship like the one being conducted at the Molson Centre in Barrie this week ?
Hopefully, sometime within the next 50 years.
I’m Fred Wallace
