The World Winter Games for Special Olympics is underway in South Korea.
Cindy Collins of Port Elgin is among the athletes representing Canada at the Games
Collins posted a time of 1 minute 38.31 seconds in the 200 metre preliminary snowshoe race this morning
Meanwhile, closer to home, the Wayne Morton rink from Port Elgin is gearing up for the Special Olympics Curling Championship.
The Morton rink won the event last year and qualified through playdowns once again this year for the one game showdown championship which will be against a rink from Midland.
Here’s the cool part; the championship game for Morton and his Port Elgin Curling club mates will be conducted during the Ontario Men’s Curling Championship at Barrie.
Not only will the Port Elgin-Midland final be staged during Tankard week, it will be staged at the Molson Centre in Barrie, sandwiched between the Men’s semifinal and the Provincial Championship game of the Ontario Men’s Final.
That’s the biggest stage you can get in provincial curling and one in which Morton hopes to claim a second consecutive title on.
