The hockey playoffs commence tonight.
The Western Junior C quarterfinals begin in Mitchell with the Hawks hosting the Hanover Barons in Game 1 of their best of 7.
Mount Forest faces Wingham and Walkerton meets Goderich in the other series which begin later in the week.
Walkerton won the League Championship this year with 59 points, 8 more than the Kincardine Bulldogs who will receive the first round bye
From an individual standpoint Walkerton’ Connor Patton was the rookie of the year while teammate Jordan Turcotte, was named the leagues top defenceman
Plus goaltenders Jeff Flagler and Justin Hammond combined to give Walkerton the leagues lowest goals against average surrendering just 93 goals this year,
While Walkerton won the league, Aaron Armstrong of the Wingham Ironmen won a number of honours.
Armstrong won the scoring title with a new league record of 124 points bypassing the mark held by Dave Hopkins of the Hanover Barons set in 1986-87
Armstrong, who hails from Teeswater, was also the unanimous choice as the leagues most valuable player and was selected the leagues most sportsmanlike player
One final note, Matt Mullin of the Mount Forest Patriots was named coach of the year.
