I’m big enough to admit this; I went right back to watching NHL Hockey- I mean right back.
First of all, I never said I’d boycott the NHL in the wake of their latest labour squabble, but I thought I’d be less enthused than what’s actually transpired.
In fairness, there are a couple of factors here.
To begin with, on Opening Night, I was travelling with the Attack from Belleville to Ottawa and there was something reassuring about flipping on the TV in the hotel room upon arrival in Ottawa to see After Hours on CBC.
Next, the nature of this adjusted season has created an environment where every game in the early going carries huge meaning. They’re only playing 48 games, they’re only playing Conference games, therefore, the start to the season is imperative for everyone competing and compelling to watch.
Finally, and again, I’ll be truthful here, I’m loving ProLine.
Because each game is a Conference game, and because defence wins, I’ve been betting under 5.5 goals per game and absolutely creaming the sports lottery, ( not last night, but by & large ) so much so, that OLG called me this morning and asked me to take a day or so off.
I didn’t live or die with the NHL Lockout- I’m way too old for that, there’s too many options for my entertainment, but I’d be fibbing if I didn’t admit, I’m happy there’s NHL Hockey on a nightly basis.
I’m Fred Wallace
