It almost defies explanation, doesn’t it ?
Let’s be honest, we live in a front running society, I’m a frontrunner; I admit it.
If you’re going well, I’m on your bandwagon, because nothing feels better than the feeling of success, in life and especially in sport
Thus, it is perplexing to see the highly respected Forbes Magazine rank the Toronto Maple Leafs as the # 1 team in hockey.
Now in fairness, this ranking has zero to do with on-ice success, because the Leafs and their ongoing crusade to win the Stanley Cup is stalled only because of the lockout.
Still, Forbes says the Leafs are worth a billion dollars & to me, that’s curious.
45 years without a Stanley Cup
8 straight years without a playoff berth
Harold Ballard. The never ending ” rebuilding ” program of the 70’s. The return of Punch Imlach. Sittler for Costello. Gerry MacNamara. The 80’s. Steve Stavro. Ken Dryden. The ACC. The Teachers. John Ferguson Jr. Wild and unfulfilled promises and proclamations.
Plus, the perpetual Corporate gouging of the consumer at every opportunity.
And yet, like moths to the financial flame, Leaf fans and wannabes, buy in and buy in, until the the Toronto Maple Leafs are the only hockey team on the continent worth a billion dollars.
