How was that for a day yesterday ?
Aside from the regular routine, which is busy enough, the bombs were flying.
Among the early topics of discussion was a review of the Minor Soccer Indoor Turf Committee’s meeting earlier this week.
The turnout Monday night was good and the belief is there are other voices to be counted in this initiative.
The sense I got as it pertains to the construction or development of an indoor turf complex, is measured enthusiasm, that is, they’re excited about what they see and feel, but they’re trying exceptionally hard to contain that excitement.
And let’s be honest, Tom Rice was my dentist in 1988 the first time I heard about the desire for a new pool and then, 25 quick years later, we’ve got the spectacular Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre.
Next came the news out of Grey Granite where engineers have determined the structure over the ice surface is unsafe and as a result, all curling activities have been halted.
I hasten to stress, that’s curling only. Any banquets, dances, parties, weddings or functions in the hall will continue to be staged as scheduled and there is no issue whatsoever with the hall.
Still, it’s sad.
As Grey Granite President Ron Hopper related yesterday, it’s like the passing of a community grandmother, a special lady who did so much, for so many, for so long.
Here’s to a better, and less active, day today.
I’m Fred Wallace
