Watching the video of that Grey Cup Parade yesterday illustrated just how scorched the sporting landscape is in Toronto.
The Argonauts are the Canadian Football League Champions, but by this time tomorrow, they will be lumped in with the remainder of the city’s sporting slugs.
I am sometimes amazed listening and watching Toronto sports media and hearing optimism being spouted as it pertains to the Toronto Raptors in the NBA.
Were it not for Washington at 0 & 12 and Detroit’s brutal start, the Raptors would be rock bottom and hopelessly out of it early.
Last night, another game……another one sided loss, this time to the Houston Rockets
Now the Blue Jays, with a new Manager, a bolstered pitching staff and a huge signing, apparently won the World Series in November.
Unfortunately, their season doesn’t commence for months and personally, I have an inkling this season will be similar to the 20 previous years.
Toronto FC ? Sure there’s a new savious coming, but even the most rabid soccer fan in this area, bows their head in shame and embarrassment.
And of course, the Leafs.
Maybe today the mediators will find a common ground for the owners and players and the Toronto Maple Leafs can resume their rightful crusade to the NHL’s Stanley Cup Championship.
And beyond the ubiquitous Leafs, in terms of hockey in the GTA; The Marlies are mostly a miss, Brampton is leaving at the end of this season for North Bay and based on the attendance Sunday at the Hershey Centre, the Steelheads might not be far behind.
Toronto’s a great city, no question. However, the sporting landscape, pro & amateur is a mess.
