It’s a long road from concept to reality, and in the world of Owen Sound sports, there may be no better successful example than Owen Sound Minor Soccer.
For decades, Minor Soccer has cultivated, grown and successfully maintained a variety of programs in which the numbers are staggering.
It’s my understanding that in 2012, more than 1,200 youngsters registered. There were 73 house league teams in various age division plus 8 U4 teams and 9 rep teams.
That’s impressive, and for Minor Soccer who took the initiative to partner with the Kiwanis Club and the city to create the multi-field soccer complex, I’m sure it’s very gratifying
The latest thrust from Owen Sound Minor Soccer is the creation of an Indoor Turf Facility Committee.
The committee is designed to explore the viability of building an indoor turf facility in Owen Sound or in proximity of the city
Tonight, there’s a public meeting to discuss the potential and exchange ideas on the concept of an indoor turf facility
The meeting is set for 7 pm at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre in the Christie Hare Room.
Is there a need for an indoor turf facility in the city or region ?
And if there is a need, can a property and facility be found, funded and constructed ?
Well, based on their growth, their success and their history, I’d think if any group can do it, it’s Minor Soccer.
I’m Fred Wallace
