The Grey Bruce Health Unit has closed the doors at its Walkerton office, but claims clients are being better served.
You may remember about a year ago, when the health unit closed the offices except for those being seen by appointment for such things as vaccines, post partum services or the sexual health clinic.
Now, the lease is up on the County owned building and the public health office in Walkerton is now shuttered.
Instead, Director of Operations and Program Development, Chris Munn says the employees will be based out of the Owen Sound office but they will only be in the office for a couple of days during the week.
Munn says the employees in the southern portion of Grey Bruce will leave from their homes to conduct inspections or see clients in different communities — such as Walkerton, Kincardine, Mildmay, Ripley, Chesley and Durham.
As well, Bruce County is going to provide meeting room space at no charge to the Health Unit for Immunization and other clinics.
Officials at the Health Unit in Owen Sound are saying this was the plan all along, from the time they reduced services in Walkerton by going to appointments only.
The end of the lease of the Walkerton office will save the health unit at least 60 thousand dollars a year.
