The community is rallying behind the owner of a horse arena near Durham that was destroyed by fire.
Brenda Stewart and friends have set up a CIBC account in Trust for Susan Dahl.
Stewart says Dahl plans to rebuild the arena — but it will take some time and money — and they wanted to help.
Stewart keeps a horse at Dahl’s barn, but the arena was used for training and lessons — and she says it was devastating loss.
The cause of a huge fire remains a mystery.
West Grey Fire Chief Phil Schwartz says the Fire Marshall’s office investigated after the 80 by 160 foot indoor horse riding arena burned to the ground.
Schwartz says there wasn’t much left and fire officials could NOT determine a cause.
Officially, the cause of the more than 700 thousand dollar blaze is listed as undetermined.
Nearly half a million dollars worth of solar panels — about 430 of them — were destroyed in the fire, and Schwartz wonders if they are somehow connected.
In an interesting twist, Schwatz says there was another fire on the same day near Brantford — and it also involved a barn with numerous solar panels on its roof.
The Ontario Fire Marshall’s office was also called in to investigate that blaze.
