And as we make our way to Windsor, it’s interesting to see how the opening of one season, in this case the Ontario Hockey League, just flows nicely off the stream of other seasons as they close.
And as the other sports close, they start the planning process for their upcoming season, albeit, months away
For the second time in almost a decade, Owen Sound Grey Motors United are the Premier Division Playoff Champions in the York Region Soccer League.
Grey Motors blanked Collingwood United 4-0 on Sunday afternoon in Alliston to capture the 2012 title, a championship they last won in 2005.
While they enjoyed the victory and truly savoured the moment, alongside the joy is the wary feeling, knowing it’s possible there will be TWO Owen Sound entries in the Premier Division next year.
Are there enough players to stock both Grey Motors AND the Strikers who earned the right to move up for 2013 ?
And speaking of next year, the Wiarton Nationals have their place reserved for the 2013 ISC Fastball Championship after winning the Ontario Challenge Cup again over the weekend.
The Nationals went to the ISC at Midland, Michigan, had mixed results, came back and won the right to go to the biggest tournament in fastball again in 2013, likely far better schooled in what’s required to go further at the ISC Tournament.
One season ends. The next begins. And the planning for the one after that might be underway earlier than ever.
I’m Fred Wallace
