Saturday night in Toronto, Athletics Ontario will present awards to the top athlete in each of their age categories in a variety of disciplines for track & field.
Athletics Ontario offers 6 age brackets ranging from Bantam through Masters.
Four athletes from the Saugeen Track & Field Club are in contention for awards; two in Throwing, the other two in the Combined Events.
In the throwing division, Tony Elliott of Mildmay & Kelly Gribbons from Port Elgin are up for awards in their respective age and gender brackets.
Meanwhile in the combined events, two of the Saugeen Club’s Athlete-of-the-year award winners are in contention for year end honors.
Both Alex Morrow of Southampton and Matheson West from Mildmay are being considered.
Saturday night will be a special night, no question, hosted at the Toronto Don Valley Hotel & Suites with Guest Speaker, CBC Sports Commentator, Scott Russell, who I understand was once a teacher at West Hill in Owen Sound.
Plus, Olympic Bronze medallist, High Jumper, Derek Drouin from Sarnia, will also be on hand to showcase his medal.
But as special as the lineup is Saturday night, it will be even more special should Elliott, Gribbons, Morrow or West capture a Provincial Award in their respective endeavour.
I’m Fred Wallace
