A letter has been sent to the municipality of Kincardine, asking that an elevator be installed in the Davidson Centre.
Deputy Mayor Anne Eadie says it’s a project well worth looking into.
The letter comes from a group of citizens who state the stairs and/or long incline of the ramps to the third floor walking track is a devastating beginning to what is to be healthy exercise.
Hearts, lungs, backs hips and knees are stressed before a walk begins
The letter also states with an elevator those confined to wheelchairs could more readily enjoy hockey games and other events taking place on the ice surface.
Eadie says an elevator could cost as much as 200 thousand dollars to install but she believes there may some grants available to defray some of that cost.
Apparently an elevator was in the original plans of the Davidson Centre but was scrapped because of cost.
Eadie says, it may take some doing, but she is going to investigate further about the possibility of an elevator in the building down the road.
