I live in a small city, in a relatively small region, with mostly small enterprises and activities.
As such, too often that size gets perceived as a drawback.
Not so in the case of the Owen Sound Satellites Gymnastics Club and what they herald as a significant arrival.
Over the weekend, the Satellites introduced their new Head Coach & General Manager, Florin Matei.
Matei has an exceptional resume in competitive gymnastics, including a position previously with the Romanian Junior Olympic squad.
What possibly could bring him to a small city like Owen Sound, and a relatively small group like the Satellites ?
It seems the size and the appeal of living in a nice community, raising children in that environment, all the while overseeing every aspect of the Satellites operation was a major attraction, maybe the biggest and final selling point.
The Satellites have programs for competitive performers, for recreational gymnasts and for special needs youngsters and the belief is that Matei’s international experience will be a major factor in the ongoing progress of the club at every level.
This is the 35th anniversary of the Owen Sound Satellites, and the arrival of Florin Matei is big news for a small club in a small city.
I’m Fred Wallace
