While many of the details are still to be finalized, the date has been set for an appearance by Stanley Cup in Owen Sound.
On Tuesday, September 18th, the Cup will be displayed at City Hall in Owen Sound’s downtown.
Hockey tradition dictates that each member of the Stanley Cup Champion will get a ” day ” with the Cup.
In the case of LA Kings Director of Amateur Scouting Mike Futa, he’s going to use his day to showcase the Cup at his parents’ home in Midland, then cross Simcoe County into Grey and bring it to Owen Sound.
As a former General Manager of the Owen Sound Attack, Futa remains strongly attached to the city and the Attack organization for essentially placing him in his first major position in hockey management, a position he held from 2002 to 2007 before joining the Kings.
As mentioned, not everything is formalized, but it’s anticipated the Cup will have a 2 hour stay outside City Hall, weather permitting.
Furthermore, again while not ” official “, Mike Futa and the Attack visualize the afternoon as a fundraiser for the local Special Olympics program.
The Stanley Cup may never return to Toronto, but for a unique afternoon on September 18th, it’s due to be in Owen Sound
