The 29th annual Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon Derby is now underway.
The fishing derby started at one minute after Midnight on Saturday.
There are several cash prizes in this year’s derby — including a 14 thousand dollar grand prize for the heaviest salmon.
The heaviest trout will earn one lucky angler six thousand dollars — and there are 32 hundred dollars worth of prizes for the biggest rainbow trout.
You can register at the weigh stations at Kincardine Marina, the Port Elgin Harbour or at By the Bay Resort in Pike Bay.
Proceeds from the derby go towards restocking a pair of local fish hatcheries operated by the Lake Huron Fishing Club.
The Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon Derby continues until August 12th — and covers over 150 kilometres of the Lake Huron shoreline and parts of Georgian Bay.
