St. Mary’s high school in Owen Sound has revised its dress code policy.
It has been relaxed in some areas and tightened in other areas.
Come September, students at St. Mary’s high school in Owen Sound will be able to wear blue jeans to class.
This is just one of the many changes to the dress code.
Student Trustee Katie Walsh says they have relaxed most of the rules to allow students to wear jeans, yoga and sweat pants and t-shirts with print on it — as long as it’s not offensive.
But other changes include a ban on skirt and short lengths that are a hand above the knee — and all shoulders must be covered.
Walsh says the revised dress code was created by a committee made up of students, staff and parents to address modesty issues.
She says as a Catholic School, it is important that the dress code reflect the school’s faith and values.
Walsh admits there may be some resistance to the rules, but she feels a majority of the students will be happy to wear blue jeans to school next Fall.
