A number of local farmers are heading to Hamilton and Guelph on Friday.
The Grey County Federation of Agriculture has organized a bus trip to tour Parrish and Heimbecker’s new docking facility in Hamilton.
Parrish and Heimbecker — which owns Hanover’s P&H Foods and New Life Mills — has built a new state of the art facility at the Hamilton harbour.
Secretary Treasurer Gail Fullerton says many local farmers have expressed an interest in touring the facility — particularly cash crop farmers.
She says they want to see beyond the farm gate and see what becomes of their crops.
The bus tour will then head to Guelph for a tour of the city’s Waste Treatment Plant which coverts biosolids into registered fertilizer that farmers can spread on fields.
The company that operates the Guelph Treatment Plant is Lystek — the same company who wants to build a waste to fertilizer plant in Dundalk.
The bus trip is open to all farmers — but space is limited at a cost of 25 dollars.
Anyone interested in going on the bus tour can call Gail at 519-364-3050.
The bus will have pick ups in Hanover at 8 AM on Friday and in Flesherton at 8:30 AM and return to Hanover by 5 PM.
