Middle of the week and you can almost taste the seasons switching gear, even if in some cases, the switch has already started.
One example that jumped off the page this week is the release of the Bluewater Fastball League schedule.
In 2012 there’s a very impressive regional list of 10 teams ready to compete;
The Port Elgin Blue Devils, Wiarton Red Devils & Wiarton Nationals, Owen Sound Selects, Saugeen Shores Smoke, the Elmwood Smoke, Chepstow Aces, Mildmay Mets, Durham Dodgers & Tara Merchants
Play starts in less than 3 weeks as the Blue Devils open at Wiarton against the Red Devils in the opener of a 3 month season that climaxes with the year end tournament at Chepstow in early September.
The league’s organizers hopes the league carries a high profile this season, and based on the calibre of entries, there’s no reason to think it shouldn’t.
Meanwhile, in lacrosse, the Owen Sound Bluewater ProTeam NorthStars have one more road game tomorrow night which will complete a 5 game stretch of roadies to open the season.
The Junior B NorthStars are at Guelph tomorrow before coming home Saturday night and Sunday afternoon for their first action at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
From a Senior standpoint, the Quantum Properties NorthStars have 2 more on the road including Saturday at Huntsville before they come home on May 26th.
Bit by bit, the seasons are changing.
I’m Fred Wallace
