Organizers are expecting over a thousand visitors to the 18th annual Holstein Maple Fest this weekend.
The Egremont Optimist Club is hosting the event at Love’s Sugarbush on Grey Road 109.
Optmist member Bill Crooks says the weekend is full of activities for every age, including a pancake breakfast.
On Saturday, Crooks says they will also have a survival in the woods demonstration and a Creature Quest exhibit, as well as live music.
The entertainment continues Sunday with the Team K-9 Dog Show.
All of that will take place in the big tent, which Crooks says they’ve expanded this year.
There will also be a number of vendors in the community centre.
Something new this year is the 30-foot suspended rope bridge, designed and built in conjunction with a Boy Scout troop from Mississauga.
Crooks says you can also take a 10 minute horse and wagon ride down to the sugar bush for demonstrations to learn where maple syrup comes from.
He says it’s a 40-acre working sugar bush with a sugar-shack you can tour, and you’ll see sugar-making techniques from the early natives to new technology.
Crooks says there will also be lots of demonstrations including a blacksmith, wood-carving, and ice-cream making.
The Holstein Maple Fest runs Saturday from 9 AM to 4 PM, with a rib dinner from 5 PM to 7 PM.
Sunday runs from 10 AM to 3 PM.
