Georgian Bluffs council is looking to get more use out of the Kilsyth Community Hall.
A public meeting was held Thursday, to discuss the future of the facility.
Mayor Alan Barfoot says the building is structurally sound but needs some maintenance…and it may no longer be sustainable for the municipality.
Barfoot notes if certain facilities don’t get enough use, it becomes too costly to continue operating and maintaining them.
But he says if they can get more people to rent Kilsyth Hall to bring in more revenue…it would warrant keeping.
However, he notes somewhere down the road they’d have to address some accessibility issues to bring it fully up to code.
Barfoot adds council is in no rush to decide the fate of the building, and they’ll welcome anyone who wants to use it for various activities.
There are still some longtime users of the Hall…one of whom is Valerie Deacon.
Deacon runs the Deacon Dancers…and she uses the hall every Wednesday to teach young girls performance dance for shows.
She says for the past 21 years, the beautiful old hall has been a wonderful resource…and a home away from home.
Deacon says she’d be willing to help council promote the hall, because most people don’t even seem to be aware of it.
Kilsyth Hall is across from Derby Public School on Grey Road 5.
