These are terrific times for high school sports in our region.
Between CWOSSA and OFSAA Championships a variety of Bluewater schools are playing significant games this week.
We’ll start with the OFSAA ” A ” Girls Volleyball & Boys Basketball Championships.
The Chesley District Lady Cougars are competing at the Girls Volleyball Championship being staged at Ryerson University.
Meanwhile, in St Catharines, the OFSAA ” A ” Boys Basketball Tournament is being conducted at Ridley College.
If there is a striking similarity between the Lady Cougars and the Raiders basketball team, it is this- the advancement of both teams to their respective OFSAA Championships is big news in both the hallways of the school and in the relatively small towns they represent.
St Mary’s High School isn’t a big school by any stretch of the imagination, but tucked away in a larger center, their athletes can sometimes get lost.
However, a group of 5 Mustang swimmers; Ethan Huff, Justin Salerne, Jake See & the Hatcher Brothers- Austin & Chris will do their best to make big news at the OFSAA Swim Championship at Milton
Finally, there’s two huge hockey tournaments, in Kincardine where the Knights are hosting the CWOSSA ” A-AA ” Hockey Championships for both Boys & Girls
The event begins tomorrow at both Tiverton and at the Davidson Centre with Pool Play.
The winners of the two pools in both genders will advance to the Championship Games on Wednesday afternoon at the Davidson Centre; the Girls Championship Game at noon followed by the Boys Final at 1:30 pm.
OFSAA Girls Volleyball, Boys Basketball and Swimming plus the CWOSSA ” A-AA ” Hockey Championships in Kincardine.
That’s an eventful week unfolding for Bluewater schools, athletes and teams.
