The hockey season wrapped up for the Owen Sound Greys on Sunday afternoon, finishing with a 9-4 loss to the Listowel Cyclones at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
With the completion of season, the Greys results can be reviewed, but the viewpoint truly depends on your perspective.
Was it a disaster ?
Was it a success ?
Was it a work in progress ?
Again, depending on the criteria, you can make an argument for all of the above statements.
Let’s start with the negative; was it a disaster ?
Not really, but try as they might, the Greys did not make the playoffs, finishing with 9 wins and 21 points, 7 points back of the final playoff position.
The final standings are accompanied by a murky operations scenario that in many minds has the club in limbo going forward towards an historic anniversary.
Was it a success ?
From my viewpoint, no.
Based on the issues above, I can’t call this successful.
However, there is huge honor in my eyes for the Greys players and the coaches who hung in there, night after night, and came close on several occasions to finding the post season.
By not quitting, by not letting go, by holding out hope they always had a shot, that’s a characteristic of successful people
In fairness, the most accurate answer is this is a work in progress.
Steps were made, more victories were achieved, the Greys competed generally to the very best of their ability on a nightly basis and players developed and some are definitely ready for the next level.
So was this hockey season for the Owen Sound Greys a disaster, a success or a work in progress ?
Truthfully, the ultimate answer may lie in what comes next.
