The Ontario-Scotties Tournament of Hearts Women’s Curling Championship begins on Monday at the Kenora Curling Club.
Among the 10 rinks in the field is the Laura Pickering rink, which is based out of North Bay.
The North Bay entry includes Allison McLeod from Tara, who currently resides in North Bay and is a student at Nipissing University.
The Pickering rink qualified for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts by going 3 & 3 at the Northern Ontario qualifier which was staged at Copper Cliff, near Sudbury.
The top 4 rinks from the Copper Cliff qualifier, will be joined by 4 qualifiers from Southern Ontario plus two other rinks who qualified through the Challenge Round.
McLeod is excited about the opportunity to play at the Provincial Championship but admits she’s also dealing with the ” jitters ” as most of the field of 10 rinks are more experienced than the North Bay rink.
Being realistic, McLeod anticipates she and her rinkmates could score a couple of victories during the week, but she says anything more would be considered upsets.
