The lacrosse season, at best, is two months away for the start of training camp and more accurately almost 4 months away from a competitive standpoint.
But for those who love the sport, and in this region that’s a lot of people, there’s always a high level of anticipation.
Among those eagerly anticipating the 2012 lacrosse season is Saugeen Shores resident Garrett Lewis.
Lewis has been a prominent name in Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse for years, a swift, lanky runner with an exceptional shot and a touch around the net.
He’s excelled in the Owen Sound Minor program and already has two years of experience playing for the Junior B club, be it the Rams or NorthStars, and has never once looked overmatched or out of place.
Now, Lewis has another challenge and more options to choose from.
On Sunday in the Ontario Junior A Draft, Lewis went first overall to the Barrie Lakeshores.
In truth, like almost everyone out of Owen Sound, his desired location was Orangeville and who knows, maybe a deal can be worked out between the Lakeshores & Northmen.
Having said that, Lewis could play Junior A for Barrie, a young squad that won just 4 games last year. He could also play a number of games with the Junior B NorthStars.
Being just 17, he believes the more lacrosse he plays, the better.
And between now and his first game action, be it in Owen Sound, Barrie or elsewhere, Lewis is about to undergo a lacrosse oriented training program under Brandon McMillen.
Like most lacrosse people in our territory, Garrett Lewis can’t wait.
