The Owen Sound Junior B NorthStars Lacrosse team has announced their new coaching staff will be fronted by Keith Peer along with Jamie Grimoldby, who was the first assistant coach named.
Peer & Grimoldby have a lengthy connection through Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse into the Signmen-Dutchmen years, onto Senior Lacrosse with the Woodsmen and now together again as a coaching tandem with the Junior B NorthStars.
Time flies. 19 years ago, Peer was the netminder and Grimoldby the top scorer for the Junior B Dutchmen who won the Ontario Junior B title in a storied 6 game series against Orillia, AFTER winning the Founders Cup in Manitoba at the Canadian Junior B Lacrosse Championship Tournament beating Orillia in the Final.
In making the decision among the applicants, the championship pedigree of Peer and Grimoldby stood out.
So too, did Peer’s connection to the Owen Sound Minor program, most recently with the Cresent Midgets.
The NorthStars will have a solid core of Senior players in 2012, but beyond that, there will be a need for youngsters, players graduating from the Minor system who know the coach and who are well known by the coach.
The first Junior B Lacrosse game is months away, but the preparation process has started in Owen Sound with the coaching announcement.
The next phase will be fitness, training and practice to ensure a quick start to the NorthStars 2012 season.
I’m Fred Wallace
