The Bluewater Football League hits the playoff round tomorrow with 2 semifinal matches.
The matches are set for Saugeen District Secondary School in Port Elgin and Victoria Park in Owen Sound, with kickoff time for both games at 2 pm
In Port Elgin, the Saugeen District Royals will host the West Hill Raiders of Owen Sound, while the other semifinal is an all-Owen Sound matchup as the St Mary’s Mustangs will host the OSCVI Falcons
Going into the playoff games, there’s little doubt the Royals and the Mustangs are the favorites to advance.
The Royals have been a perennial power and completed another undefeated regular season with a perfect record of 5 & 0, culminating with a shutout victory last week over the John Diefenbaker Trojans at Hanover
The Mustangs were second in the loop and they too hit the playoffs on the heels of a shutout, as they blanked OSCVI last week to nail down the # 2 slot in the regular season.
Of course, this is high school athletics and high school football, so there is always a measure of the unexpected and the unpredictable.
So, while it’s expected by most that St Mary’s & Saugeen District will meet next week on Remembrance Day for the Bluewater Football Championship, there are still 2 semifinal games tomorrow that need to be played to establish whether that matchup will be reality or fiction.
I’m Fred Wallace
