Another big boost to the Owen Sound Regional Rec Centre fundraising drive.
Spearheaded by Reg MacDonald, the owner of Baywest Nissan and Baywest Toyota, the new car dealers in Owen Sound have collectively pledged 100 thousand dollars.
The pledge announced Friday helped the fundraising committee reach the four million dollar mark — and the goal is five million dollars.
The group pledge includes: Baywest Nissan, Baywest Toyota, Fox Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Grey Motors Mazda, Hal Wright Chevrolet Cadillac GMC Buick, Jim Gardhouse Chrysler, Kia of Owen Sound, Owen Sound Honda, Owen Sound Hyundai, Owen Sound Subaru, Owen Sound Volkswagen and Peninsula Ford Lincoln.
MacDonald says the positive recreation, health, social and economic outcomes of the Rec Centre will benefit their clients, personnel and their families.
Campaign Co-chair Sonya Mount says to date, over 600 local businesses and residents have contributed to the project.
With 80 per cent of the funding goal achieved, continued community support is needed to take this campaign over the top.
Opening in spring 2012, the only building in Owen Sound to be heated by ice will significantly improve the physical, recreation and economic health of the region.
The new home of the Family YMCA and a double ice pad arena, the Regional Recreation Centre triples the size of the current aquatic facilities and doubles available arena and workout space.
