Last season after the Owen Sound Attack had won a Sunday afternoon road game at Brampton against the Battalion, Manny Paiva & I had dinner with friends and relatives in the GTA
When dinner was completed, we hopped into the vehicle and the timing was perfect to catch the broadcast of the Kitchener Rangers game at Sault Ste Marie on the radio with Don Cameron and Mike Farwell.
Don’s being doing the Rangers games since 1963, I think, and without hesitation, I still consider him to be the best announcer in the league. Mike Farwell was new as his broadcast partner last year, but both Manny & I have known him for years.
The topic of discussion at one point was playing 3 games in 3 nights.
The Rangers had been at home Friday, at Saginaw Saturday and, on this night, they were playing at the Soo, making it 3 in 3, a real grind the broadcasters admitted, relating it was the first time the Rangers had a 3 in 3 on the season.
Manny & I started to laugh.
Then we laughed harder, so hard he had to pull the car off the road.
Then on the side of the road, we broke down and cried for 20 minutes.
While the Rangers were playing their first 3 in 3 of the year, the game at Brampton for the Attack was the FIFTH time Owen Sound had faced the challenge.
I think of that funny/sad moment today, as the Attack head off to Barrie for a game tonight with the Colts.
Then tomorrow at St Mike’s.
Then Saturday for ” home ice advantage ” against Guelph.
You know where I’m going with this………
For the record, the Attack have 8 ” three in threes ” again this season, and we’ll see if Owen Sound is as successful this year in those segments as they were a year ago when they went 16 & 8.
