The Ontario Hockey League season opened last night in the city with defending Robertson Cup Champion Owen Sound Attack hosting the Plymouth Whalers.
The Attack looked impressive in a 6-2 win, although in fairness, it has to be noted the Whalers were missing a third of their lineup with guys primarily still at NHL camps.
There are 3 OHL games tonight while the Attack return to action tomorrow with their first round game of the year at Guelph.
September is opening month on a variety of local sporting fronts.
For example, I just received the 2011 Bluewater Athletic Association Football League Schedule.
Once again, 6 Bluewater schools ( alphabetically since we’re talking academics here ); Grey Highlands Lions, John Diefenbaker Trojans, OSCVI Falcons, Saugeen District Royals, St Mary’s Mustangs & West Hill Raiders will compete in the league.
The season is starting a week later this year, allowing each school to have almost a dozen practice days before they launch the competition
The Mustangs play primarily on Thursdays and St Mary’s will open the season next Thursday when they host the West Hill Raiders.
The Semifinals are set for Friday November 4th followed by the Championship Game one week later on Remembrance Day.
The eventual league champion advances to the CWOSSA Semifinal match
One other note before we go today- I have the football schedule, but for the coaches and convenors of cross country, Girls Basketball & Boys Volleyball, you’re requested to send your schedules to Bayshore Broadcasting a.s.a.p.
I’m Fred Wallace
